Writing lives at Iowa, and Iowa is alive with writers. Whether you want to publish your creative work, break the big story, write and produce a film, or secure a grant, you can do it all at the University of Iowa. Your story starts now—write it here.

❚ Live with Other Writers

Beyond the classroom, students at the University of Iowa connect with writing by living in the first US designated UNESCO City of Literature. Whether they join a Living Learning Community (LLC) or meet up with other writers at a local coffee shop, at Iowa, writing is everywhere.

Build Your Community of Writers
Grow, Collaborate, Encourage

"The whole reason I came here was for writing. It's cool to be doing that in a community of like minded people. I met 20 people as soon as I got here, which helped me feel connected to the community. It's so much fun."

❚ Get Involved

Iowa is home to The Iowa Review, The University of Iowa Press, dozens of undergraduate literary magazines, and the nationally recognized student-lead Daily Iowan newspaper. In addition to these, organizations such as Student Video Productions, KRUI radio, and the Public Relations Student Society of America offer students the chance to better prepare themselves to enter the workforce.

"Without the support systems at Iowa, from both The Daily Iowan and the university, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to flourish or succeed in the ways that I did while I was in college."

“Networking with the alums is my biggest tip because there’s so many connections you wouldn’t think of... I never thought I could be published in a national magazine. But with the help of professors [...] and alums, I was able to do it."
