Today we are featuring Alec Tewes, a business major graduating with a BBA Accounting and BBA Finance from the Tippie College of Business.
Hi Alec! Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Alec, and I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In my free time, I enjoy working out, spending time with friends, and watching sports. After graduation, I will be returning home to work in public accounting!
In a few short sentences, tell us how writing impacted your time here at the University of Iowa?In a few short sentences, tell us how writing impacted your time here at the University of Iowa?
Throughout my time in college, and specifically in the Accounting Writing & Communication Program, my writing has greatly improved. The most important skill I've learned is how to communicate complex financial information in a way that is concise and easy to understand. I am confident that what I've learned here will not only translate but help me stand out in my future career.
What was one of your favorite classes or activities related to writing? What was one of your favorite classes or activities related to writing?
In my tax courses, many writing assignments focused on advising a hypothetical client. I enjoyed learning how to tailor communication to someone who may not have prior knowledge of the subject.
What advice would you give to incoming students about writing at Iowa? What advice would you give to incoming students about writing at Iowa?
Writing has never come easily to me and it's something that I've had to work very hard at. If writing is a challenge, do not be discouraged - there are many great resources at the University to help you improve.
What are your plans for post-graduation? Any projects, continued studies, or exciting work news we can share?
After graduation, I will continue studying for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exams and then begin working as a public accountant in the fall.
