In this flagship series, we’re highlighting graduating University of Iowa students who have woven writing into their academic journeys across disciplines.

Today we are featuring Maggie Criswell, a business major graduating with a BBA from the Tippie College of Business.

Hi Maggie! Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Maggie Criswell and I am from northeast Iowa. I have been at Iowa for three years and am majoring in accounting.

In a few short sentences, tell us how writing impacted your time here at the University of Iowa?
Even though I am a business major, writing has remained a big focus of my education here at Iowa. Challenging myself in my writing through class work has allowed me grow in my abilities and confidence as a writer.

What was one of your favorite classes or activities related to writing?
I enjoyed my writing projects I did in my Tax courses. Getting to apply the writing skills I have learned to real world scenarios has been a great way to prepare me for the real world after college.

What advice would you give to incoming students about writing at Iowa?
Iowa has so many great resources, use them! Going to have someone at the writing center or even a peer consultant look over your work is really valuable.

What are your plans for post-graduation? Any projects, continued studies, or exciting work news we can share??
After graduation I am interning at Ernst & Young in Des Moines, Iowa as an audit intern. After I complete that, I plan to sit for my CPA exams.
