Welcome back to Iowa City and the University of Iowa! We have been working hard over the summer to make the Office of Writing and Communication (OWC) and our home at the Shambaugh House to be an open and welcoming space to all.

One of our biggest projects involved transforming the whole house into a more comfortable, flexible areas for students. We’ve created common spaces where you can grab a cup of coffee, settle in and study, meet with friends, work on a project, or simply hang out between classes.

And there’s more! Make sure to join us for our Fall Kick Off Event, on Sept. 18 from 2-6pm. The event will feature special readings from Melissa Febos, Samantha Chang and Kaveh Akbar, along with undergraduate literary mag readings, a book fair, free swag, food + more! This will be a time for you to get to know Shambaugh House and the OWC more.

We aim to be a resource for all things writing at Iowa. This includes news items, events, information and more. You can subscribe to our Newsletter for a bi-weekly round up of everything happening on campus. Our News page is also a helpful place to find events related to writing across all programs on campus.

Coming soon: We will have some new Writing at Iowa merch to share! This year’s lineup will includes new T-shirts and bags, with more ways to show your Writing pride around campus. Keep an eye out for opportunities to pick some up.
