Journalism Students Talking Together
Make media that matters.

In today’s accelerated media environment, UI's School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) believes that the best journalism and media education is deeply rooted in the liberal arts, teaching students to think critically and holistically. The craft of writing is paramount to this endeavor, and with an eye to the future  SJMC is focused on becoming the pre-eminent multimedia storytelling program in the Midwest. As more and more writing moves online, and multimedia dominates online cultural production, SJMC educates students to be engaged citizens and nimble, ethical professionals. SJMC prepares students to flourish in global communities through the information they share and the stories they craft, work that is as accurate as it is truthful, built on a foundation of writing and communication.

“I’ve gained a lot of skills — I can write, I can work in front of and behind the camera, I can do graphic design, I can do video editing or photo editing, I can fly a drone — whatever it is, I feel really well prepared."
